Votive Church in Szeged

Szia!
(hello)

This website is dedicated to all my old and new friends in Hungary and Serbia.
I hope you enjoy the photos, stories, and people I met along the way...

My time spent in Hungary and Serbia was a fact-gathering trip, to collect information on
a possible partnership with people there to do relief and development work in the near future through
Hopetogether.org. Working together with local churches and other organizations,
we reach people at their point of need in several areas of the world including Africa and New Orleans.

I stayed with my good friend Robert George and his family in Szeged, Hungary.
Rob and I were childhood friends and recently reunited after not having seen each other since 1989!
His wife Donna and two young daughters Sarah and Hannah offered me extremely generous
hospitaility and encouragement during my week long visit. Rob works with a
wonderful outreach organization in Hungary called Church Resource Ministries:
(CRM Empowering Leaders)

Köszönöm szépen
(Thank you)

Isten Aldjon meg
(May God bless you completely in all areas of your life)

SZEGED, HUNGARY

The Votive Church of Our Lady of Hungary
(Hungarian: Magyarok Nagyasszonya)

is a twin-spired church in Szeged. Construction began in 1913, but due to the outbreak of the First World War, it was not completed until 1930. It is the fourth
largest church in Hungary. The dome is 54m outside (33m above the inside floor) and the towers are both 91m high. The "Heroes' bell" in the tower on the
Tisza side weighs 8600kg. Since 1931 an open-air theatre and music festival have been held in front of the Votive Church.

"The Lord went ahead of them. He guided them during the day with a pillar of cloud,
and he provided light at night with a pillar of fire. This allowed them to travel by day or by night.
And the Lord did not remove the pillar of cloud or pillar of fire from its place in front of the people.
"
